A small independent editorial site about one thing: making video look better with the light you can already find, borrow or move around a room.
Why this site exists
Lighting is the part of video that beginners most often skip, usually because it looks like it needs expensive kit and a large studio. In practice, a lot of good light comes from careful placement: a chair turned towards a window, a ceiling light switched off, a lamp moved half a metre, a white board held on the shadow side.
Frosted Lantern Works publishes guides that explain those decisions in plain language. We cover window light, household and practical lamps, the roles of key, fill and back light, colour temperature and white balance, diffusion and bounce, simple interview setups at home, and the safety habits that matter when hot lamps and extension leads are involved.
How we write
- Plain language. Technical terms are explained the first time they appear, and we avoid jargon when an ordinary word works.
- Placement before purchases. We start from what most people already have at home. When a piece of equipment would genuinely help, we describe the job it does rather than recommending a brand.
- Honest numbers. Where we mention a figure such as a colour temperature, we say it is an approximation and explain what it is useful for. We do not publish invented statistics or studies.
- Stated limits. Rooms, bulbs and cameras vary. Where an answer depends on your setup, we say so instead of promising a result.
- Safety first. Lamps get hot and run on mains power. Our guides flag heat and electrical risks, and we never suggest modifying fittings or wiring.
What we do not do
We do not accept sponsored articles, paid placements or free products in exchange for coverage. We do not use affiliate links. We do not sell lighting equipment, courses or services, and we do not publish testimonials, reviews, ratings or claims about results you will get. If that ever changes, it will be clearly disclosed at the top of the relevant page.
