General information only

Everything published on frostedlanternworks.com is provided for general informational and educational purposes. Our guides describe common lighting techniques and starting points for small-scale video. They are not professional advice for your particular project, and they do not replace the instructions and safety information supplied with your lamps, bulbs, camera or other equipment.

Lighting depends heavily on circumstances: the size and colour of the room, the time of day, the bulbs you use and the camera you record with. Treat what we describe as a starting point to test, not a guaranteed method.

Results vary

We make no promise that following anything on this site will produce a particular look, a particular level of quality, an audience or any income. Results depend on your equipment, your space and your practice. We do not publish testimonials, case studies or performance claims.

No sponsorship or affiliate links

Our content is independent. We do not accept payment, free products or other benefits in exchange for coverage, and we do not use affiliate links. When we mention a type of equipment or material, that is a description, not an endorsement. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only for identification. Electrical and heat safety

IMPORTANT

Lamps and bulbs run on mains electricity and can become very hot. Incandescent and halogen bulbs in particular can scorch or ignite paper, fabric and plastics. Nothing on this site is electrical, fire-safety or workplace-safety advice.

  • Keep diffusion, bounce boards and any other materials well away from hot bulbs, and never cover a lamp that is switched on.
  • Do not leave lamps unattended, and switch them off and let them cool before moving or adjusting them.
  • Do not overload sockets or power strips, or chain extension leads together.
  • Do not open, rewire or modify lamps, fittings or plugs. Stop using anything that is damaged.
  • Secure tall lamps and stands, and keep cables out of walkways.

If you are unsure whether a circuit, fitting or setup is safe, consult a qualified electrician. You are responsible for assessing the safety of your own space and equipment.
